LUZERNE COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE is Hiring a Literacy specialist Near Nanticoke, PA

Position Title : FT Literacy Program Specialist, Adult Learners' Training and Assistance Program (Grant Funded until June 30, 2025)

Position Classification : Full-Time Twelve (12) Month Faculty

Minimum Position Qualifications :

  • Education - Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field (Masters Degree preferred) with Certification in Reading or English as a Second Language desired.
  • Experience - Two years working experience with basic and literacy education programs for the adult learner including recruitment / outreach, retention, parent involvement, and instruction within adult basic education components.
  • Skills - Demonstrated concern for detail and accuracy; knowledge of procedures to document adult learner eligibility; working knowledge of adult basic and literacy education programming;
  • working knowledge of cooperative, collaborative, and individual learning structures including incorporating technology in the classroom;
  • working knowledge of adult learning support materials and equipment; working knowledge of formal and alternative assessment instruments, instructional strategies / techniques, and procedures for adult learners;
  • working knowledge of community linkages and support services; ability to supervise and lead volunteer and part-time staffers;

documented ability to develop marketing strategies for adult basic and literacy programs; well-developed oral and written communication skills required.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the supervision and monitoring of an Adult Learners' Training and Assistance Program (ALTA) component (basic and secondary, English as a Second Language, family literacy, or workplace / foundation skills) including the recruitment of staff and periodic evaluation of professional competence and achievements of staff;
  • preparation of informational materials for and about all facets of the program component and its staff; preparation of reports indicating the component's growth, such as attainment of objectives and individual and group accomplishments;
  • responsible for supervision, monitoring, maintenance, and analysis of adult learner / family data connected with the conduct of the Program's component;
  • preparing all information and data for various State and federal reports connected with the component; retrieving all data necessary to satisfy various adult learner / family eligibility requirements, outcomes verification, and the development of reports;
  • establishing procedures for the development and maintenance of adult learner / family folders; utilizing Program component data to initiate program improvements;
  • responsible for the supervision of Program component instructional and support personnel and for the monitoring of instructional settings on and off campus;
  • responsible for all Program component data on adult / family learner outcomes; testing all learners appropriately as outlined by PDE;
  • maintaining complete records on all Program component learners and delivered services; serving as a resource person to the counselor(s) and practitioners regarding the needs of learners;
  • assisting the transition support specialist in conducting and arranging group meetings; recommending instructional materials and equipment for purchase;
  • responsible for planning and conducting various activities for Program component learners / families, in conjunction with component practitioners and / or the transition support specialist;
  • assisting the transition support specialist with adult learner contacts and the arranging of adult learner / family group meetings as needed and appropriate;
  • supervising the maintenance of Program component data management, and monitoring the maintenance of adult learner / family folders to insure accuracy and confidentiality of data kept on learners;
  • organizing appropriate staff in-service meetings and programs to improve staff instructional competencies; responsible for working with in-house professional development specialist;
  • attending and / or assisting with local training sessions and professional development meetings of staff in support of individual professional needs;
  • attending local, regional and statewide professional development; documenting learning transfer from local, regional, and statewide professional development and training sessions to the classroom;
  • responsible for building collaborative relationships with community agencies and institutions to enhance delivery of services including conducting regular agency outreach, publicity, and recruitment activities;
  • responsible for cooperating fully with PDE personnel including the assigned program advisor, in accomplishing requirements of the Pennsylvania Adult Basic and Family Literacy Act of 1986 and the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, Title II (Adult Education and Family Literacy Act);

and such other duties related to the foregoing as may be assigned by the Director of the Adult Learners' Training and Assistance Program.

Entry Salary : $46,765 / annual

Standard Work Week : 35 hours
